Fossil Detective Workshop
29-04-2026This year, our school is honored to join The Geopark Schools Programme, which is a key education programme of Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. Working closely with local schools, Hong Kong Geopark has rolled out a wide range of science popularisation activities to inspire students long-term interest in earth sciences, integrated with ecology and culture, and to promote the concept of sustainable development.
Regarding the Geopark school programme, the Geography Society hosted a Fossil Detective Workshop open to all students. Guest speaker Edmond Ng, founder of Timeless - The Fossil Collection, brought real fossilised animals, shells, and plants for hands-on examination. Participants traced the journey of ancient creatures—from death and burial under sediment, to mineral replacement, and finally uplift and erosion exposing the fossils after millions of years. The workshop also covered how to distinguish real fossils from ordinary rocks. Students left with a deeper appreciation of Earth’s deep history. A huge thank you to our speaker and everyone who joined. Stay tuned for more!
